Posting Images (hosted elsewhere)

There are 2 options here for posting images:

1)Attachments, these are my preferred method, and is easy to do. This topic is to discuss the other option.

2)Hot linked images, these are images hosted elsewhere, such as on photobucket, flickr, or imageshack. When an image is posted by this method, that is wider then the posting area, it is cropped by default at the edge of the post display area.. What I have done is to limit posted hot linked images to a width of 600px, this will prevent images that would be cropped from being posted. My question is, does this sound like a good solution to you guys, or would you prefer it let you post whatever size image, and it be cropped if it is too big?

Crop it, It did that to my image but I was only going for a color shot anyways. I forgot to click the code for a thumbnail.
No sense in having an image take up all that space.

So then you would prefer I turn off the width restriction on posting images and just let the forum crop them? This was not turned on when you posted your image, it simply will not allow you anymore, it will tell you when you are posting the image has to be less then 600 px wide.

The other option, using attachments, it will resize the image if it is too big.

Yah let it be, I can't say how many people complain about super large images on other MB's I visit.
So if the site stops it before it can take up an entire screen, I say kudos...They take forever to load for some and when You visit again You have to wait for the HUGE file to download every time. :?

Well I believe it still has to download the whole image, but it only displays the part that fits... This width restriction would prevent that...
